Hi guys,

So my 1070 msi seahawk stopped working after a power shortage in my city the last night, the fan (the one on the videocard) does not work and the lights (msi logo and etc) are not working either, the interesting thing is that the fan from the all in one system that the gpu has is working, so i dont know if its dead or not.

I tried changing the port in the mobo, changing the cable that goes to the psu, the port in the psu and it just wont start, i have to try it in another pc/psu to see if it starts.

I'd appreciate hearing opinions or any tips to check if it works or not.

Specs.

PSU EVGA 1000 GOLD
MOBO Asus x99 extreme 3.5
Gpu Msi 1070 SeaHawk
I7 5820k

Thanks.

My 2cents.. a brownout is pretty bad on a computer..

I have NO idea if you can "fix" that card.. IS it under warranty at all? if so RMA that bad boy.

I would try it like you stated in a different computer to see if its your computer or the video card. Next I would highly recommend that you get a back up power supply.. the battery backup is a nice thing to have on a computer you love :) it will prevent damage when there is brown outs (and high voltage)

OH almost forgot.. Check your current power supply and make sure its actually still working properly. Voltage meter?

This happened to me twice, but it was my mobo that stopped working. Not entirely sure what happened, but from that point on I invested in a quality surge protector, which turned out to be a really good investment as I moved to an area that had frequent black-outs.

On one of my boards the Ethernet port got fried. The other just went dead, both directly following a black-out.

When ever there is a brown out at my house we unplug all the computers not protected with a surge or UPS. When the power comes back on it is not unusual for a spike to come down the line and it can damage your computer and/or components. I would try the video card in another computer to see if it works. If not and it is under warranty I'd get an RMA and don't tell them about the brown out. You should test all the components in the computer to see what else was damaged.

You have a high quality power supply, so the level of built in circuitry protection should be enough protection from damaging any hardware. But that doesn't mean it won't happen during a brown or blackout. Did you have the PC connected to a UPS or is it directly into the wall or in a non-protected power strip?

No, i have no psu and i know it's a big mistake to have my pc with no protection. My gpu will be tested on another pc this afternoon and ill update with any information later. Ty guys!
