I have an old r9 280x and for some reason i get no display.
The gpu turns on lights on, fans spin, but no display. Tried putting it in another system still the same result happening.

Any idea what might be causing this? Or how to fix this?

Solution
If you can boot into safe mode, and it works it is usually driver issues, and i'd run DDU and reinstall the drivers, because if you can boot into safe mode and every thing is fine, it's more than likely your drivers.
Hi there,
I had exactly the same thing. I also didnt know how to fix but i sent my pc to some professionals and they are gonna look at it what is wrong. I will message you again when I have my PC back so I maybe know what caused it.

awesome. Thanks! Please do message me back when you find out what caused it. it would be a waste if i cant fix this r9 280x of mine.
Warranty of this gpu has already expired so i cant have it RMA
:/

Did it work and quit working?

Do both systems have adequate power supplies and did you plug in the PCI-E connectors from the power supply to the card?

You try different cables and or different outputs on the card?

If yes to all and you tried it in 2 different system with no display it's likely dead.

Yes,yes, and yes.
But if it's dead then why does it still light up and the fans spin (on the gpu)? Is there some kind of fix for this?

I won't forget to message you :) btw have you tried putten your HDMI or VGA or Displayport cable into your motherboard instead of your gpu?

Assuming he has onboard graphics all that will do is use it instead of the graphics card. Not sure what that proves?

Then you know if the gpu is dead or not I think...

one thing i forgot to mention,
if I boot into safe mode the gpu can be seen in device manager. Maybe the problem is somewhere else?

Hmmmm interesting, It just can be everything dude. I still won't let you down when I know what happened to my PC :) Try some more researching
