GPU Only Displays Through Direct Connection

Hi everyone, I have an ASUS P8Z68-V motherboard. Yesterday I replaced two HDD's with a single SSD, and I also upgraded my PSU to an EVGA Supernova 850. G2 I think, I'm away from it at the moment. I realized after a few tries that my computer was booting but the GPU wasn't displaying anything so I figured it was a driver issue. I disconnected the GPU, a GTX 560 ti, and the onboard graphics worked fine. I should mention this is a new Windows 7 install. I installed the Nvidia driver thinking that would allow the GPU to display. I restarted and nothing displayed. I got the idea to plug directly into the GPU instead of the HDMI in the mobo. It worked. I'd like to plug into the HDMI though- is this a mobo driver issue or a BIOS setting problem? Thanks in advance.

So, what you're saying is that you want to be able to have output from the HDMI of your mobo instead of having output purely from your GPU?

Typically most mobos will default to the PCIe card if it detects one. You might have to go into the BIOS to set it so that you can use both the onboard graphics and the discrete GPU.

This begs the question though, why would you want that.

You can't use the output on the mobo, it isn't possible unless you don't want to use your GPU.

Thanks for the replies, that was fast. I previously had it set up to use the graphics card but the display output was sent through HDMI in the mobo. I guess that's unnecessary though- I'll just buy a different cable and plug directly into the GPU.

I was more concerned that there might be something wrong with the card or the motherboard but I guess if it's displaying at all then they're probably fine.

If you were previously running your same setup but though the onboard HDMI, then I assume you were using the Virtu MVP software that comes with the motherboard to utilize the integrated and dedicated graphics card simultaneously. You'll have to set that up again if you want to utilize your same old setup.
