GPU overclock resets when I start a game

I've set the overclock settings in both the Radeon Setting and MSI Afterburner. I test the setting using Furmark and everything is fine. It isn't until I launch a game that I notice my clocks reset to default and I'm not able to change the clock settings until I reboot the computer.

Graphic card: Gigabyte HD 7950
GPU overclock: 1100MHz
Memory overlock: 1500MHz
Power Control: +5%

Default Clock Settings
GPU: 900MHz
Memory: 1250MHz

I can only think of three things right now. Maybe more will come to mind later.

1.) Unstable overclock, which you don't find out about until you actually load in the game. No two programs will respond the same way to the same overclock.

2.) Conflicting saved profiles between Afterburner and Crimson. Afterburner doesn't have to be running for the conflicts to happen. Try uninstalling all of those overclocking utilities, being sure to wipe any leftover folders and things, and see if it still does that. I had to uninstall Afterburner to fix my crashing computer because I decided to toy with it just now.

3.) Dying power supply, which is something you may not notice until you really place a load on your system, like trying to play a game...
Before we continue, max out that power control/limit slider. There is never a reason not to unless you're using a laptop or your card is overheating.

That's a pretty decent overclock you got going there for an HD7950. I wonder, what are your temps like?

Crimson and Afterburner, currently, act like spoiled, pouty, tantrum-y schoolboys when they are run concurrently. If you're going to set an overclock, I would dial it into Crimson only, and make sure it's in the global settings (and saved, of course) instead of relying on Afterburner. I've had far better luck with ASUS GPUtweak, Sapphire Trixxx, and Radeon Pro (the brute force method, I call it).

Edit: I just had a play with Afterburner, and it crashed my computer. Derp.

I maxed out the power control in radeon settings and the same issue accrued. I downloaded Radeon Pro, but all overclocking options are grayed even when I click on the unlock button. I tried ASUS gpu tweak and the same issue happens. Its so odd. It only happens once I launch the game.

Start by dialing back the overclock a bit. Start off with the highest stable overclock you can achieve with unigine valley or heaven without modifying voltage values.
