hi i was just wondering, if you change the gpu clock and memory clock, without increasing voltages or fan speeds, is there any risk in destroying your GPU or does it effect its lifespan?
I have 2 x 970s, and tested them at 1495 on air, before I put them under water. Now I run them for daily clocks and games at 1561, and do benchmark runs at over 1600.
As long as your temps stay under mid 80s c, you're fine.
No. Clock speed may increase your heat a tiny bit, but the enemy to the overclocker is always heat and volts. Keep the heat down, you're good to go. Obviously, extreme amounts of voltage can decrease useful lifespans, but....usually, there's nothing in a stock bios that's going to allow you to hurt your card.
i have a strix 970 SLI and i increase my GPU clock to 1450 mhz and my Memory Clock. when i look at the specs of the GPU i have i hit the same numbers in temperatures, i get 72 c with max load on my cards. if i use MSI afterburner the temperatures they display are wrong, but when i run GPU tweak there correct, even when i run benchmark programs like UNIGINE heaver, its analysis of the temperatures are correct 72 c maximum. i was always a little afraid of pushing my clocks to the maximun i can reach, thats why i posted this thread. there not too expensive cards but i definately love them and would hate if all this time i was destroying my cards. thanks for the input i appreciate it
