GPU overheating when playing games

Hi everyone! I'm having a problem with my GPU. When playing games the GPU fans go in overdrive and the game lags bad to the point where the fans lag with the game lag if that makes sense. I've tried another GPU and it works fine. Also putting the seeing to low doesn't help at all. Please I'm desperate for any help on this

fans lag with the game lag. nope that doesn't make sense, start with your PC specs, brand of CPU GPU AND PSU

Processor: am fx 4100 quad core 3.6ghz
Ram: 8gb
Psu: corsair cs550m
GPU: asus 6970

Sounds like the card is just overheating. Can you monitor the temps with something like msi afterburner whilst playing? When is the last time you cleand the card with compressed air?

I have a gpu temp monitor. When idle it sits around 45c. When playing a good game I've seen it go to 103c and load goes to 100c

Do you have any case fans??

Remove the heatsink off the card, clean off thermal paste, replace with something like MX-4.

The thermal paste on that card is probably all dried up.

I have 3 fans and I keep the side panel off whilst testing it..

It can run games, but the as I put more graphics on in the settings the louder the fan gets, the temp goes higher and the game stutters. The pc is in brand new condition (including the gpu)

That is WAY above safe for that card. The thermal paste is probably dried up due to age and needs replacing.

It's a pc with 5-7 year old parts so even tho it looks brand new the thermal paste will be dried up in the gpu.

OK.. so I bought a new gpu (gtx 670) the fans are running but it can't pick up the gpu?! I swear this pc has been cursed from day one
