GPU PCI cables question

I've started building my own gaming rig and I've got a GTX 1080Ti on the way. As I understand it, it is powered by two individual 8-pin slots requiring connecting to the PSU using a PCI cable. My question is this and forgive me if it sounds nooby (first build), with my power supply came PCI cables that have the 8 pin to connect to the power supply, but then on the other side is two sets of 6+2 pins, meaning it can fill a total of 16 pins on the GPU. Now can I put one head into one 8 pin slot and one into the other? Or does the GPU need to be supplied by two individual PCI cables?

Each 6+2 works as both a 6 and 8 pin. If you have 2 X 6+2 you are fine with a card needing 2 X 8 pin. Now the 1080ti needs quality 600~650W so as long you have that covered your set.

I have the Corsair 1000, so it's enough to power it. But if I were to run GTX1080Ti would I need to upgrade my PSU?

na thats enough wattage for 2 X 1080ti's if the PSU has 4 X 6+2.
