Hi Tom’s Hardware community,

I’m quite new to the whole idea of custom PCs and am looking forward very much to my new build, which I will soon be ordering from OverclockersUK

For my GPU, I have chosen an MSI GeForce GTX 770, which has a PCIe 3.0 interface.

Unfortunately, OverclockersUK don’t stock the Asus Sabretooth 990FX R2.0 GEN 3.0 motherboard, which apparently is the only motherboard at the moment that has an AM3+ socket and a PCIe 3.0 slot.

They do however have the Asus Sabretooth 990FX R2.0, which they say is a very similar motherboard, but just hasn’t got PCIe 3.0 slots.

Since my GTX 770 will have to be put in a PCIe 2.0 slot, will I experience a performance hit?

Thanks in advance for the help,

Solution
You will not notice a performance hit, as of right now current cards aren't even really close to using all the bandwidth that pci-e 2.0 X16 can push.

I don't suspect that will be for a good while and by then you will more than likely be ready to upgrade your cpu and motherboard along with your GPU again.
