So i was originally going to get the i5 4690k but i saw that the pentium g3258 is only 70 dollars and it can reach up to 4.8 ghz when overclocking, will the pentium be good for gaming and will it be able to handle future games, and is it a all around good chip i don't do any video editing or stuff like that no photoshop the pc will be mainly for gaming but i may do some school work on it can the cpu handle all that? also my gpu will the the r9 290

The Pentium is in my opinion the best budget friendly chip out there, with overclockability up to 4.8 like you said.

However, it's still limited by it's dual core config, so it won't beat an intel core i5 at highly threaded apps even overclocked.

Just save you money for a quad core i5.

The G3258 is a fairly low-middle end chip, and without adequate cooling, forget about OCing it. You'd be better off getting the i3-4150 and save for a Core i5-4690K. here's my first build for reference:http://pcpartpicker.com/user/zeyuanfu.fu/saved/8sFKHx

It's a dual core cpu. A lot of games now want quad core.

And like all cpu's, you need to get a cooler eg cm hyper 212 evo to use for overclocking. Plus on a Z97 motherboard.

I think it's a great cpu for a first build and for a low end intel build. It'll support a GTX 760 easily.

As I said, you have to have sufficient cooling to reach 4.8 GHz. And for the rest, that was what I meant in my previous post.

A "lot" as in probably less than ten titles that actually make real use of more than two cores instead of showing CPU usage across multiple cores merely due to Windows rotating thread scheduling across cores..
