GPU power pin connections

Quick question.
I'm helping a friend upgrade his GPU, and here's the thing.
His old GPU only had a single 8 pin connector, but his new one has an 8 pin and a 6 pin.
So we're curious as to how that's going to work.
Especially since the PSU only has 8 pin connectors, not a single 6 pin.
Got any good suggestions?

Solution
You need to connect both 8 pin and 6 pin to GPU. If his PSU does not have them, most likely it will not be able to deliver enough power for the card, so new PSU is smartest move.
Unadvised method is to use adapters, like 2 molex to one 6 pin. But if PSU in not powerful enough, that will not work anyways.
