Many companies have no problem with replacing thermal paste, for example MSI, they had problems with some cards having poor thermal paste placement. As long as the card doesn't get damaged, nothing wrong with replacing it to get better temperatures.
I agree. It was actually changing of a backplate.

Do you happen to have some reasoning for you answer for my own insight?

I know it's conductive and such but if it isn't touching pcb, would it be an issue.
