Hi all,

I’m looking for some help with an issue I have with my PC.

Specs:-
• Corsair 540 case
• i7-4790K Devils Canyon CPU
• Gigabyte Z97X Gaming Motherboard
• Sandisk Ultra II 240GB SSD
• Sandisk Ultra II 480GB SSD
• HyperX FURY 2x8GB DDR3 1866 MHz RAM
• 1080 TI Founders Edition
• Windows 10 professional
• Corsair CP-9020061-UK Builder Series CXM 750 watt PSU
• Corsair H75 Water Cooler

I built most of this PC around 18 months ago. A couple of weeks ago I replaced my GTX 970 with the 1080 TI. After installing it, my PC would reboot as soon as I ran a game. I figured this may be either overheating, or the PSU. My old cooler wasn’t great (H55) and CPU temp idled around 60, going to 80-90 during gaming. My PSU was cheap anyway (Cooler Master B Series B700 ver.2), so I replaced both these components.

CPU temp came down to around 40 idle, but the rebooting continued. So I replaced the PSU with a Corsair CP-9020061-UK Builder Series CXM750, and the problem was solved for around 2 weeks. Until yesterday, when it resurfaced. Any attempt to start a game, or run a GPU stress test, instantly reboots my PC.

Things I have tried:-

• Temp checks – all completely fine
• Restoring windows to save point
• Rolling back GTX drivers
• Reinstalling windows
• Unplugging the connectors from PSU into mobo and all relevant sockets and plugging back in.
• Using different sockets on PSU
• Reseating GPU
• Testing old GPU (same result)
• Stress testing integrated graphics without a GPU (no issue with this)
• Stress testing RAM (no issue found)
• Stress testing CPU (no issue found)

One thing to note is that I tested running a game in minimum settings, and it ran for a while without rebooting. It only seems to be when my GPU is tested (stress test, or running in high settings, as you would a 1080 TI) that it reboots. My assumption is that it needs more power and is having trouble getting it. I’ve ordered a replacement PSU which will arrive today and I will install after work, but if this fails, I’m not sure where to go. I want to try to avoid replacing the motherboard, as I feel if I’m replacing it with another 1150 socket I may as well be getting a 1151 and getting a 7700k, but this isn’t even guaranteed to fix it.

Although it looks like a PSU issue, since its happened to my old PSU and this new one (after a few weeks) I’m a little sceptical.

If anyone has any suggestions or thoughts on this, I would love to hear it.

Many thanks.
