I just ran gta 5 on my computer for the first time and all was well until i turned up some msaa or w.e its called. I just wanted to see how my pc handled it. Not the best but not like HORRIBLY either so i turned it off. Obviously the fan on my gpu got high as expected when under load but it just got like continuously louder even after i shut it off then the game crashed. I went on wattman just to see how things looked and my rpm as the game was off and slowing down was at a little over 3600. My temps were about 45ish degrees then around 30ish. Wattman is stock just havent heard it get that loud before, also a very demanding game just wanna know if all is normal or if my gpu fan is outta control or what.

Pc specs
Intel i3 6100 stock cooler
Xfx Rx 480 rs 8gb
1X 8gb ddr4 2133 hyper x ram
Msi h110m gaming motherboard
750 or 700w power supply not sure which one

Can't easily damage much though, your PC will turn off for savity pre-cautions. Not necessarily because you've done damage to your graphics card. Mine crashed a few times when I tried OC'ing the memory, so I just set it to default.

Should be safe if you follow the instructions and you'll increase the longevity of the GPU and have a GPU that's more silent if you do it correctly.
AMD cards depend more on their cooling then Nvidia cards because AMD cards use almost twice or even 3x more power to run, i would not be worried about it, thats just something you have to deal with going with AMD. and your i3-6100 is not the best Cpu for GTA 5, i would get an i5, i really don't think that i3 is utilizing the rx480s max potential.

You're just misinformed really. Polaris GPU's don't use anywhere near 3 times as much power. My RX 480, which I also tweaked a bit, uses 112 watts on average in stress testing and doesn't exceed 62 degrees. Although the XFX RS has poor-ish cooling and will usually go over 80-83 degrees in gaming, if not undervolted.

It could be that its not the most "honest" game if you catch my drift lol but all worked well before i turned up the settings over 60fps, not too sure. As far as the rpm control its set to automatic although i have set it to manual once in the past. Tried overclocking and after a very weak stress test i crashed. After i hard reset my fan got crazyyy loud upon start up as if the fan was running at max speed for like 2 seconds and its happened a few times Since but the settings set themselves back to default and even playing doom and etc since i haven't had any issues first time i heard the fans rpms get that high during a game though

Not AMD in general. AMD Polaris is their newest line-up and it doesn't use 3x more energy, not even 1.5x times more. AMD Polaris = RX 460, RX 470 and RX 480.

The OP owns an RX 480, so why you saying AMD consumes 3x more power, when OP's GPU doesn't? If you're providing incorrect data about OP's graphics card then it sounds misleading to me, which is misinformed info.

tlavanway3 sorry for voting you down i was trying to reply still new to this site.but yes i am def ungrading to an i5 6600k in the near future overclocking it and all that jazz. I know the performance increase with the rx 480 is pretty darn significant as well. But im still surprised with how well the i3 has been holding up. I had everything on very high and ultra minus motion blurr and long shadows things like that and was still getting well over 60 fps. I def agree with you saying its holding the card back and the i5 is deffff a step up but for an i3 it kicks some serious butt lol

You could try undervolting the GPU for more efficiency and less fan speeds. RX 480's ship with more voltage they really need to run.

If you weren't, in what way did your response help OP at all?

'' AMD cards use almost twice or even 3x more power to run, i would not be worried about it, thats just something you have to deal with going with AMD.''

You were trying to say he had to deal with it, because you thought his GPU used way more power because It's AMD.

Not too sure it may be. Ive black screened a few times but i think some pins on the power supply and gpu werent in all the way and came out because when i checked they were no longer in. Its only happened once since then after almost a week where it was happening every few hours so idk. I also black screen sometimes when plugging in a usb or headphone jack in when the metal touches it like shorts or something maybe my motherboard is too close to my case maybe it's the power supply who knows. The perks of building your first pc right Lmao

RCFProd i would try undervolting but to be honest im scared to touch wattman and make changes after my bad overclock. I feel as if all the trouble i had started after that and id hate to cause more damage then i already did if i did cause some

Do i follow it step for step, are there some settings that would be different on my computer due to power supplu size, ram frequency or etc. As i said just sketched out about screwing anything up if i dont need to. I can afford a new gpu cpu or motherboard atm lol
