I recently purchased a i5 4690k and a Gigabyte Gaming 5 motherboard. While playing the same games as i did with my old fx6300 and m5a99fx pro r2 mobo i am experience higher GPU temperatures.

I find this very odd. I did a fresh install of windows and all the latest updates. What would cause this issue?

I am running 2x R9 280x's in this system and the main card is running around 93 Celsius.

Were the PCIe slots for your cards in the same general spot on the Gigabtye board? For example, did the cards end up in the same slots on the back of the case, or did you have to open another slot cover so that you could reach it?

If the cards are closer together now than they were before, that could explain why they're running hotter, especially if the main card's air flow is more restricted now.

I suppose it's maybe possible that, because of the switchout, there's an issue now with the fans on the main GPU -- something sticking in the fans, etc. Beyond that, though, there's not really any reason for the GPU to run hotter. Not that the FX-6300 was a very hot CPU, but even its TDP is slightly higher than your typical i5, so I would have expected either the same temps or maybe a degree or 2 lower.

They are in the same slots, and are cooled nicely. The fans are both working properly on the main card, and secondary.
