GPU suddenly stopped working on new system

I left my PC on overnight to come back to no display output despite the system clearly being on. After restarting a couple times I realized that the GPU (an EVGA 4GB GTX 960) has its fans spinning down after about 10 seconds of turning on.

I tried reseating the GPU and using the other power output from my PSU (an EVGA Supernova 550w g2) to no avail.

I put the GPU back in an older system and it worked fine, so I know the GPU itself is not at fault.

The main system is a Ryzen 1700x in an Asrock motherboard. Since the CPU doesn’t have integrated video I can’t check the output, but everything else seems to be running properly as all the LEDs in the system and all fans turn on as they normally do during startup.

Update: I tried powering on the system with a GT 720, which doesn’t require dedicated PSU power. The fan on it spins up and stays on, but there’s still no video output.

I would strongly look into it if I was in your position. My experience with ASRock tech support and RMA has been good. You shouldn't run into any issues dealing with them.

However, if you just acquired the MB, you may get faster results going through the company you purchased it from (newegg or amazon or wherever) instead of the 2 week process it may take ASRock (from the time you ship it, they test it and ship you a fixed/new MB).

I tried using the second PCIe slot on the motherboard, and it works fine. If the primary PCIe slot isn't working, should I bother getting a replacement from ASRock?
