GPU temps skyrocket during minecraft

I am running an evga 980 superclocked acx 2.0.
It has run fine for the past 2 months, temperatures went up to about 40c when playing minecraft, csgo, dayz, arma 3.

But now, randomly(usually after 5-10) when playing ALL kinds of minecraft from vanilla to huge mod packs it goes up to over 70c(70-78).
The GPU starts to make noises(NO not the fans) kind of like coil whine but louder and clunkier.
The gpu feels hot as hell.

It has happened once with CSGO but other than that it has only ever happened with minecraft.

Please don't go claiming 70c is a fine temperature, it sure as hell doesn't feel "fine" when I touch the gpu to check it.

I have run malwarebytes, adware cleaner and windows defender.
Nothing.

P.s. TO CLARIFY, after taking the screenshot I actually did things in minecraft and the temperature averaged 73c while peaking at a whopping 90c!!!

have to remember 70 Celsius will burn you if you touch metal so of course It wouldn't feel fine but that noise isn't good.
Good job for not ignoring it as it can cause serious problems down the line if left.
It could be a range of things and I would recommend RMA (send it back 😛) It will be much quicker and solve your problem easily.

I was averaging 50c when playing HEAVY mod packs. Which is why 70c isnt normal for me.
I am getting 70-90c now even in vanilla(meaning absolutely no mods).
Thats why the temperature is freaking me out(plus yes, the noise)

The only thing is I cant really say its the GPU, other games run fine, maybe getting 60c max at times. Only minecraft is having the temperature issues, I want to see if maybe java or some firmware/bios is causing the issue.

I do my work from my computer(Concept art for games) so sending the card back isnt really a 1st preference for me.
Not to mention the fact that Im Australian and my card was from America +_+

Yes but is sounds more clunky and rough. Not as extremely high pitched and buzzy.
Doesn't make the sounds for any other games.

Okay so you got 3 possibilities for coil whining : PSU, Motherboard where the CPU socket is and your PSU.
So when your system is on open upside panel and get a piece of a4 paper, roll it up and put it next to your ear and use it to search around for the noise as it will amplify down the a4 paper tunnel to your ear. Need to make sure what one it is before proceeding 😛

also what fps you getting on minecraft? and you got a 60hz monitor yer?

When I hit 90c earlier fps were fine.

You are v-syncing yes??? Because a common easy problem is not having v-sync on for older games and your powerful card could be turning out huge fps's and huge fps jumps e.g. 430,615,471,598, especially when looking at different textures.
If you can confirm that is this ... then sort your v-sync out and it will be fine.
BUT if not can you confirm where the noise is coming from?

My mistake, it was a typo from me reading other stuff while typing. I meant GPU.

ahh :/ the only fix for GPU is to do with the frame-rate.
Basically it is to do with electromagnetic stuff, so it is more of an annoyance than damage, See if the company you brought from will send a replacement first. I buy my stuff generally from amazon because if I get a faulty piece they send replacement before you send back 😛
