i saw someone selling a gpu and its very cheap

now the people are asking if it is used in bitcoin mining

os the question is
what is bitcoin mining?
why are the people concern if the gpu is used in bitcoin or not?

what will happen if you used your gpu in bitcoin mining?
and lastly how to know if the gpu you bought is used in bitcoin mining?

Solution
Basically a card that is worn out from excessive use. GPU's are now useless for mining, so people are getting rid of their mostly AMD mining hardware, mostly reference R9 290X cards. Don't buy if you find one, a good chance it'll die out on you any day.

Bitcoin mining is how the Bitcoin crypocurrency is created. GPUs are not longer powerful enough to use for Bitcoin mining because difficulty is based on the size of the network, specialized hardware is now required. To mine, the GPU is run at 100% 24/7, which wears the cards out. That's why people care if the card has been used for Bitcoin mining.

Bitcoin mining is using the efficient processing power of specialized architectures to crack bitcoin hashes. Unless you're SUPER into hardware, live in an area with VERY cheap electricity, and are willing to drop major bucks on the equipment... bitcoin mining is a bad deal.

Any GPU can be used for it, it's just a matter of popularity, the guy may be trying to increase the perceived value of the card by telling suckers the thing will print money for them. It also has stressed the card and may have some minor damage due to constant use.

The other thing is that GPUs suck for mining now, people who do it for profit have specialized boxes that do the calculations.

Bitcoin mining is a process of using the unused processing power of your graphics card to run algorithms. Once a correct algorithm is solved/completed, whatever, you are awarded a bitcoin (or a partial, not really sure) that can be exchanged or used as real currency.

The problem is bitcoin mining utilizes all of you unused graphical processing power; running your GPU and or near 100% nearly 100% of the time it's powered up. This puts a lot of wear and tear on a graphics card. Anyone selling a mining card may be selling you damaged good and some people simply won't buy them.

There's no way of telling whether a GPU was used as a mining card.

No you can't earn money. Unless you have your computer powered by a water wheel in your backyard that isn't hooked up to an electrical grid, you're paying more to run the GPU than you get out of mining bitcoins. The mining economy is insane because there are farms of people running HIGHLY specialized units that kick a normal desktop GPU's ass. If you were hooked up to the grid, you'd be earning more by selling the power back to the utility company.

Do not mine bitcoins, if you feel the need to waste electricity on computing with an inefficient module, spend it on folding@home or seti@home.
