GPU Thermal paste- how often do i need to apply it?

Solution
Apply new thermal paste whenever you see unusual high temperatures on your processor or GPU.

This can happen for 2 reasons:

1) your fan cooler died
2) your thermal paste is dried out

PS: other reason can be overclocking on stock fan, so care when you overclock

I would truly pop that heat sink, clean heat sink and gpu with 100% electronic alcohol (do NOT use 70% rubbing alcohol)
and or dry rub the residues off apply a proper amount on heat sink and put it back together

Electronic alcohol is 99.9% pure.

The Rubbing alcohol contains approximately 70 percent by volume of denatured alcohol. defines as 95% methylated spirit, 2.5% castor oil, 2% diethyl phthalate, and 0.5% methyl salicylate.

castor oil, and methylated spirits are conductive elements and have no place even in traces anywhere on or near electronics.
