Hello whoever might be reading this, thanks for doing so!

It's been 2 years since my last gpu upgrade (a 280x, i got it for cheap and it was still mid range-y enough for me, and it took me through many AAA games up to here, with decent graphics: TW3, ME:A, Shadow of War). I'm also rocking an i5 3470 (3.6GHz turbo).

So now I'm on the search for a new (mainly current gen) card for future-proof 1080p gaming at high-ultra. I live in Romania, and the market prices are still pretty jacked up, with the mining craze having hit pretty hard here, so all of my inquiries have been for aftermarket cards (Nvidia only since they're slightly less sought after by miners).

Here's what I found (currency converted to € and $):

1) GTX 1060 3GB - 185€/220$ (not too impressed with the 3GB 1060, but its kinda cheap for its performance so yeah)

2) GTX 970 4GB - 185€/220$ (an alternative to the 1060 3GB, also not the biggest fan but I'll list it as an alternative)

3) GTX 980 4GB - 220€/255$ (middle ground between the previous 2 cards and the 6GB 1060, performance for now still seems pretty good, but I'm worried that I might pay too much for a 3 year old card that might begin seeing bigger and bigger performance drops)

4) GTX 1060 6GB - 260€/310$ (kind of a big gap from the 3GB version for it, so I'd have to wait a couple of months extra to get it, but it seems like the safest buy)

I'm open to suggestions, if anyone has some.

That's about it, sorry for the pretty long post, this took longer than expected. Have a great day if you've made it this far!

Solution
Obviously the GTX 1060 6GB would be the preferred gfx card for gaming. The GTX 980 right behind it. The GTX 1060 3GB and GTX 970 3.5GB are a bit of a tossup. Although in games that are not super VRAM hungry at 1080p, the 1060 3GB is the better card of the two.

I have a 1060 6GB, 980 4GB, and 970. I used to have a 1060 3GB. I have benched all of them at 1080p over time.
If you can wait and save up, go for the 6GB 1060. If you want one now, grab the 980.
