[SOLVED] GPU upgrade compatibility

Hi all, i have an ancient clevo w86cu laptop which i'm hoping to squeeze a few more years out of. Am looking at upgrading the graphics card from gtx285m to a gtx 980m (about £200).
Both are MXM 3.0B, but the 980 is a different generation. Is that a deal breaker?
If its not how do i check BIOS compatibility? i've searched but cant get an answer.

Only two ways to find out if this will work, try it and see, or find someone else that tried it. You can ask Clevo but not likely you will get an answer at all or if you do good chance it will be "we are not sure, try it". Probably not worth spending 200 as a test vs 800 on a new laptop with the same speed.
