Hello, my friend who currently has a 660TI wants to upgrade his GPU so he can play games like fallout 4 Star Wars battlefront and Just Cause 3. There is a second hand hardware shop called CEX which is selling a second hand fully tested GTX 690 for £220. Is this offer worth it?

Here is a link for the Card: https://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SGRAATIGTX690A#.VppjBuzfWnM

If you are to link any other suggestions please drop English links as that is my country.

All answeres are much appreciated, Ajsski99

That card could run those games on high settings with more fps than that.

How much and what type of memory does he have?

Is his monitor plugged into his GPU? Sounds like it's plugged into his motherboard.
That depends on your point of view. For that cost I imagine you could grab a GTX 970 or R9-390. While the theoretical power of the 690 is indeed greater than either card, it comes at several great costs.

GTX 690:

- Much higher power draw.
- Will run much hotter.
- Micro Stuttering.
- Poor(sometimes non existent) scaling.
- Limiting 2GB video memory.

the card i saw was reference and had 4gb of memory but those other factors are good to know :)

well he has to play them on low settings at 20-25 fps which is rubbish

Something wrong with his pc then. Like i said, the 660 is quite capable.

is it because he only has an i5 4440?

Should be fine. What speed does his cpu run at? Can he o/c it?
Also what resolution does he game at?

he has 8gb of ram at 2133mhz and is plugged into his graphics cards hdmi slot

no its a non k chip at 3.1ghz he games at 1080p

Try gaming at less than 1080p. Also check there are no other programs running. If this doesnt work then he will have to get a K chip & clock it to 4ghz. any k will do.
