[SOLVED] GPU upgrade for Black Friday

Hello, everyone!
I am planning to get a new GPU for my desktop, since we have BF on 15th of November, in my country.
I currently have a GTX 1060 , wtih 3 GB and although is 3 years old, is still decent for 1080p gaming; however, i would like to take that oportunity to upgrade, especially since i also changed my monitor to an Asus VG245H, with free-sync, so I am leaning towards AMD GPUs;
So far, I am looking up at the RX590 and RX 5700 ; the RX5700 is clearly better, but the RX590 seems to have the best price/performance ratio, but I wonder if it's gonna worth it . My CPU is an I5 6400 and i hope it won't bottleneck the GPU .
What do you think about it ? Any other sugestions ?

The cpu would be the first thing I'd look to upgrade, not the gpu.
4 core/4 thread cpus are obsolete - or going the way of - unless all you play are older titles.
6 core/12 thread would be the minimum recommendation, IMO; 6 core/6thread cpus can become sluggish when all their cores are being used.

I don't agree with you. 4 Cores works perfecly fine and there is barely any difference between a Core I5-6400 and a Core I5-8400. You can use Freesync with an Nvidia graphics card but they are alot worse value. You can also try going used, it's mostly a safe bet and most sites give you your money back if you get scammed.

I am not sure where do you get the info about i5 6400 being almost the same with i5 8400 or as you said "barely any difference between them" but ALL the benchmarks I found for those 2 processors show 20-30% difference in performance, in favor of i5 8400.

There is even 20%+ difference between i5 6500 and i5 8400, so yeah, it's a significant bump the 2 extra cores.

If one specifically sticks to older titles, or emulators, sure, I wouldn't argue.
If one is looking to play more modern games, or the latest and greatest, 4 core/4 thread cpus will not cut it anymore. Plus, non hyperthreaded cpus run into frametime drops, causing stuttering and frame skips, once all their cores are fully saturated.
I wouldn't suggest an I5-8400/9400 anymore because of this, though I believe the I7-9700 would have a longer 'use by' date. Games only recently started pushing 6 cores, after all.

Where the heck did you pull those numbers from?
-1080Ti can not deliver a constant 144fps @ 4K high settings. Hell, it can't even do that on 1440p high; I'd know that from my own setup.
-RX 5700XT: Depends on the game, but for the most part, nope.
-RX 5700, etc: Nope again, but your 1440p statement is more spot on though.
-RX 5500: How and why are you posting numbers for a product that isn't even out yet and not properly benched/reviewed???

Well, I am , what people would call, ca very casual gamer ; Upgrading the CPU now, would mean an extra budget for this purpose and is not really in the scope of this situation.
Just to give a dimension to what i usually play - SW Battlefront 2, AC Odissey, Battlefield 1 - alike games, all on 1080p, with a combination of max and medium settings ; my monitor is 75hz capable, so I am not really aiming to push for more than 75 FPS, but rather for the free-sync; unfortunetly the monitor that i got does not allow freesync with the 1060, due to lacking display port input, but an AMD GPU shoudl be able to do it via HDMI ( as far as i read );
Not planning to change the monitor also, bceause, for single player campaigns, 75Hz i guess is decent and i have no intention to move to a competitive gameplay .
LE : since i mentioned earlyer about the RX590, seems there is a deal today for the Nitro +, 200 USD...

Well, 2 of those games I know like multi-threaded cpus: AC Odyssey, and BF 1. That number is only going to keep going up as time goes on.

If you're just after 60fps, there's no real need to push for freesync; just enable v-sync.

Well, part picker won't deliver to my country and on top of that I must add 19% as VAT , so even the cheapest RX580, wold cost me 201 USD ( 169 * 1.19 ) ; not ot mention shipping costs

Update : I managed to come across a very interesting deal on a stock clearence promo, a GTX 1080 EXOC from KFA 2 ( Galax ), for 250 $, brand new , 2 years warranty. I know is an old Pascal Gpu, but seems to be on par with an RTX 2060 , wich costs about 380 -400 $ . Stepping up from my 1060 3 GB, I expect a nice boost. I am aware that my i5 6400 will bottleneck it in some titles, but i am planning a r5 2600x upgrade, moving to am4 platform.
