Greetings guys. i decided to upgrade my current gpu but im in a huge dilemma. I am watching gpu prices everyday in order to chose the best, but i guess they are not going to drop anytime soon. I want your opinion in whether i should go for nvidia or amd. I want a future-proof gpu to keep me going for 2k gaming for at least 5 years. Should i go for a 4070ti or a 6950? Is a 3070 a good choice for future 2k gaming? Is a 6950 value gpu or a simple 6800 will keep me satisfied?
Current setup consists of:
MD Ryzen 5 3600 43 °C
Matisse 7nm Technology
RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1064MHz (15-15-15-36)
Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. B450M GAMING (AM4) 33 °C
Graphics
S2719DGF (2560x1440@155Hz)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (ASUStek Computer Inc) 35 °C
Storage
465GB Samsung SSD 860 EVO 500GB (SATA (SSD))

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Ideally you're suggested to buy a GPU that is at least 2 tier's above your current GPU. So an RTX2070 or an RTX3070 or an RTX4070Ti is your logical step up. AMD's counterpart is also a viable option. though my query would be what the make and model of your PSU is and how old the unit is in your platform. Another point of concern would be the make and model o your case. In your current state, what BIOS version are you on for your motherboard?

Hi there Lutfij, can you tell me how can i inform you about the bios version? Also, i have a corsair 550 psu bronze and an antec micro atx case. Mind that i can afford a new psu if needed.

Install CPU-Z, then check BIOS version listed under Maindboard's tab. As for your PSU;
corsair 550 psu bronze
Corsair is the brand of the unit, while 550 is the advertised wattage of the unit. Bronze is also the advertised 80+ efficiency rating. What is the model of the unit? How old is the PSU in your build?

antec micro atx case
Antec have a number of micro atx cases, which one do you have off of their portfolio?

This is the case https://www.antec.com/product/case/dp301m and the BIOS is F60, as for the psu, i have it for 5 years tops and it is the VS550 Corsair VS series.

5 years at 2K is quite a difficult thing to gauge, if you are wanting to play AAA titles in 2028, you will likely have to play on low settings with any card from today. A 6800 is by far the best value but it wont last you as long, Personally that is what I would pick and save the $400-500 over the 4070Ti which is the highest performing but worst value. You can save that money and then maybe replace the 6800 in circa 2026 with that money with a 7060 card which will massively outperform a 4070Ti.
