I am looking to upgrade my pc as I have been getting some slower frame rates lately and my components are quite outdated but I am not fully sure what would be best to upgrade first and what I should upgrade to. My specs:

- i9 10900k @ 5.0 GHZ
- 1080ti 11gb
- 64gb ddr4 3000mhz ram
- 1tb Samsung evo plus m.2 ssd

I understand that my GPU is oldest component here and to my knowledge the weakest link (please correct me if I’m wrong). This works out better because upgrading my GPU would be cheaper than new mobo, ram, cpu, etc. I’m not very knowledgeable in terms of bottlenecking, would upgrading to a 4080 be dumb, even in the case of planning to upgrade my cpu down the road?

Note: I play a variety of games and also use modeling software on my pc. Some single player games at high graphics, but also looking to improve fps in games such as CS2 (competitively, so low settings), which I know is more CPU heavy but the source 2 engine seems to use more of my GPU now.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

in terms of a GPU upgrade the power supply is of course a major concern.

what do you currently have?
include make, model, and it's overall time in use.
That is a great point I did not think of that. I have an EVGA 850W gold that I’ve had ever since I started with pc’s. Didn’t realize how old it was until now. Going on 9 years If I remember correctly lol

EVGA 850W gold
that doesn't really say much.
that's just the make, supposed wattage, and it's efficiency rating, not the actual model of the unit.
EVGA has produced some high-end models along with some very low-end.

but, going on 9 years i would definitely be looking to replace it.

your best bet may just be to start on a entirely new build and sell or gift the older system as it is.
earlier this year i got ~$600 for an older heavily used 8700K / GTX 1080 Ti based system.
