GPU upgrade - many ideas - don't know which to go for =P

Hi all!

I currently have a dual EVGA FTW GTX 670 2gb (Which I have OC'd considerably) set up which I absolutely adore and do not regret buying them in the least. I can easily run every game out there on max settings @ 60+FPS, bar a select few such as Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3, which will run @60+FPS most of the time with an FPS drop in some of the more active scenes. However, this being as it may, I am thinking about a GPU upgrade in the coming months. But I am at ends. The way I see it I have the following options:

Stick with my 670's until the 800 series is out

Buy 2 780's since theyve dropped in price since the release of the 780Ti

FYI I still want Nvidia cards, I am not at all interested in ATI cards. Not predjudice, just personal preference.

While I would normally wait for the 800 series there is no word so far about when we will be seeing them on the shelves, and when they are they are likely to be out of my price bracket anyway (I still want an SLI setup, no comprimise), while at the minute I can just about afford 2 780's after selling my current 670's. But if I was to go for 780's, there is another problem. Which one?

I still want to go with EVGA as I believe they have some of the best PCB's out there (I mention this as I do intend on OC'ing and want the best PCB's I can lay my hands on, understandably). And to my knowledge EVGA currently only offer the base 780, the SC 780 and the Hydro copper 780, and do not offer a FTW 780 at this time. Now, I do not have a watercooling loop, so thats the hydro copper scratched off immediately. That leavs the vanilla and the SC 780. As I mentioned above I want the best OCing experience possible, so I would assume that the OC version would be better. Which would you suggest?

Now, whether I choose to go for the Vanilla or the SC 780 I will still have to choose whether to go for the 'Titan' cooler or the ACX cooler. I understand that the ACX cooler is very good and would be more beneficial for OCing, however this cooler expells air into the case, and this is something I would rather do without (Hence my FTW blower type 670's). I have heard that the 'Titan' cooler is perfectly good, and one of the only downfalls of it is that it is a bit louder? If this is the case this is not a problem as noise doesnt bother me (I wear headphones anyway).

So, in short, would you advise me to:

Wait for the 800 series or get the 780's?

If go for the 780's which ones? (For best OCing)

And finally, what cooler?

Thanks for your time!

Same as above, i will stick till the 800 serie for a serie of reasons:

- If you play already at max (or almost at max) do't really need a upgrade in the short term to get playable framerates.
- Series 700 is a remake of the 600 or older cards, same tech you are already using and not a big jump.
- Series 800 is supposed to make a big jump (but we need to wait to see if its true) and have a tech change.
- Maybe for a low budget card i would recomend purchasing to see a improvement, but you are talking still of 1000$ in total.

Okay, so the general consensus is to wait for the 800 series. =)

I understand that upgrading to a couple of 780's won't be much of a change hardware wise, but I think the performance difference would be beneficial. However as you say the 800 series are meant to use the new Maxwell line of GPU's, so who knows.

I think what I'll do for now is wait, Ill try and find out when the 800 series is due to be announced. But I still have the worry that these will be out of my price range.

no they won't they will be at prices of 700 series and 700 series and 600 series will go cheaper

What I mean is as of right now I can get an EVGA 780 SC for £410, which is far cheaper than before the 780Ti was released. When the 800 series are released the 880 (assuming one is brought out) will be more expensive than this due to it being new. This is all speculation I admit. If I had the sort of money that I was considering 2 780Ti's I would be inclined to agree with you.

Yeah, this is probably the sensible thing to do. =) But im the kind of person that likes to upgrade thier GPU's every year or so, so being sensible is something I'll have to get used to. XD
