Hey everyone,
I'm looking for some advice on my pc setup. I upgraded my hard drive, motherboard, processor and RAM a couple of years ago and I'm now finally considering upgrading my GPU in the near future. As of now, I'm running an Intel Core i5-12400F processor with a GeForce GTX 1070 gpu and using an MSI Optix MAG27C monitor. If I were to upgrade my gpu to something like an RTX 3060, would I need to upgrade the monitor to really appreciate the new GPU as well? Any info or other suggestions on this are appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

As for your upgrades, what sort of a budget do we have to work with, where are you located and what is your preferred site for purchase? What sort of tasks will you be taxing the system/GPU/monitor with?

CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F
CPU cooler: stock fan that came with the processor
Motherboard: Asus Prime H670-Plus D4
Ram: 2x8GB T-Force DDR4 3600
SSD/HDD: Samsung 980 Pro SSD (1TB)
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070
PSU: 600 W Corsair CX (purchased w/PC in 2014)
Chassis: Digital Storm Vanquish II
OS: Windows 11
Monitor: MSI Optix MAG27C
BIOS Vers. 0412

I'm hoping to stay under $500 for all upgrades at this time. I'm in Central Indiana so I have Best Buy, Microcenter locations available as well as reputable online sites that I've done business with as well (newegg, etc.) Typically, this PC is used for basic home office functions along with gaming. I'm looking to get the most out of MS Flight Simulator, and games like Red Dead Redemption 2 as well.

RTX 3060 is about as fast as GTX 1080 so it's not much of an upgrade. Up to you if Raytracing is important, but on a 3060 12GB you'd have to use it with DLSS to maintain 60fps. Your existing Freesync-compatible 144Hz 1080p monitor should be a good match for it.
