Hello.
I currently have a GTX 580, which, by all means, is an amazing GPU. But unfortunatly it is not VR capable at all, and it is not as strong as i need in general.
I am assuming most shops will lower the price of GTX 900 series, so is it worth it to get a 970/980 or get an r9 390/380X.
I dont have a strong cpu either, it is the Phenom II x6 1055t.
Soon i will have 24gbs ram as well.
I use my computer for rendering, video, audio production, gaming, and gamedev.
I have heard that the GTX 580 beats the 970 in the CUDA department, but is cuda neccesary?
Thanks!

Solution
The Pascal GPUs have such a good price to performance ratio that even with the recent discount on the 900 series, they aren't exactly worth it. The GTX 1060 which is coming out july 7th is just as powerful as a GTX 980 according to what I've heard. GTX 1070 is faster than a titan X. So defiantly get one of the 1000 series GPUs for VR.
