GPU Upgrade & new Monitor + General Gaming Build Compatibility Check and possible Bottlenecks

Hello TH-Community,
it's time to upgrade my PC Build again. I bought my current parts 4 years ago except for the GPU, which I already possessed. Now I'm looking for new parts to upgrade my Build for newer Games, Streaming and high FPS rates. I use a 23" IPS FullHD Monitor at the moment and want to buy another one to use the current one as a second screen: The new one should be with a 1ms response time, 24" 1920x1080 and 144Hz, adjustable stand and G-Sync if possible ( maybe G-Sync will burst my price range). I thought of getting either the GTX 1070 or 1070Ti as a GPU.
In the end, I would like to know if there is anything else worth upgrading at the moment (which I could keep for the future whithout worrying about old DDR or Socket-Standards or if that would require swapping the Mainboard, CPU and RAM at the same time with another big investment.

Parts Not Required: Keyboard, Mouse, Headphone, Case, OS, Microphone; everything else depends on compatibility

Why Am I Upgrading?: for high and stable Framerates and Gaming + Streaming newer Games on higher graphic settings aswell; investment which should let me keep it for a few years to come

I would go with something like this for the monitor. It checks all the right boxes and is pretty close to your budget.

As for the GPU, the 1070ti is pretty close to a 1080 in performance and in a lot of cases, is priced closer to the 1070. So if your budget is 500, get the best GPU you can for 500. If I were you, I would wait 4 weeks instead of two. The next gen Nvidia GPUs will be released this month and you may see a price drop on the older 10xx series cards.

Normally I don't say wait as something new is always on the horizon, but it will be released this month and is the first time in over 2 years that Nvidia has released a new generation of gaming cards.

As for the rest of your build, you have a fairly balanced rig. I don't love the PSU, but it wont burn your house down either. I would continue to rock your 4790 right now as it is still a very good gaming CPU. Maybe in a year or two when new CPU processes are released from Intel and AMD you could take a look then. But right now, the performance jump is not worth the cost of a whole new platform.

So you don't think anything is worth changing in the core-setup except my GPU? What's wrong/suboptimal with the PSU and do you think I need some additional Coolers for the new GPU or in general? I have only the in-built Casecoolers so far.

No, a new platform upgrade would be pretty expensive and you would only see a modest bump in performance. I would wait till next year when and look at the Intel 10nm or AMD 7nm CPUs. Those may have enough performance boost to make it worth getting a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM.

You PSU is not terrible. It is a tier 3 PSU. It is not the best, but it wont burn your house down either.

No, you don't need any additional cooling for a GPU. The cooling that they come with will be fine. Just get a video card that is a non reference style (blower) card. In short, get a card that has 2 fans.

I'm pondering over buying a WQHD instead of a FullHD Monitor along with the new GPU. Including the aforementioned specifications like 1ms response time, 144Hz or higher, G-Sync and an adjustable stand it would be a price increase of ~200 Euro. Is this worth the better resolution and is G-Sync actually going to do anything at that level/ would this work well together with a GTX1070/1070ti?

I assume you want the 1ms response time because you can see the difference between 5ms. So I would think gsync would be important because it will provide no screen tearing with no lag.

The 1070 and ti model will run great on 1440p and I would say go for it it is really the sweet spot as you will get better resolution and won’t sacrifice too much FPS.

In my opinion, you should not skimp on a monitor because it will last much longer than any part of your system. A good monitor will be good for a decade. You can’t say that for any other component of your rig.
