Gpu upgrade or Cpu upgrade.

I am currently running a i7-2600 @ 3.4 ghz with 8gbs of ram and i was just wondering if i should upgrade my entire system, Cpu, motherboard and ram, or just get a gtx 1080. I'll only have enough money for one of the options. Just need help deciding.
I only play games on it and plan on trying 1440p as my default res.
