GPU upgrade recommendation for Gateway DX4860-UR20P

Hey guys, I recently purchased a Gateway DX4860-UR20P,
I really want to upgrade my graphics card. It currently has Intel HD Graphics 2000 (I haven't upgraded anything inside yet). There are some good games that are out that I want to play (BF3 for one).

I am mostly going to use it to play Battlefield 3 (and future proofing if it can be done).
I will be using a LG IPS231P-BN 23" IPS Monitor 1920 x 1080.
Can anybody recommend a specific brand that will work with my rig?
My budget will be around $250-300.

Is that your PC? It only has 300W PSU, so you're stuck with low end gpu like GT240, HD5670 or something that doesn't need an extra 6pin power connector.
Surely GT240 and HD5670 won't give you anything if you play at 1920 x 1080. You must get higher card to play BF3 at 1920 x 1080 with decent setting...

Thanks for the quick reply and you are correct sir, that is my pc. I am willing to upgrade my PSU, but I just need some guidance as to which one will work with my set up.... How would I know which PSU to get for my PC? I have read and searched but to no avail.... Thanks again.

You really get a PSU based on what GPU you get. If you want to play BF3, you are going to want something like a GTX560 or Radeon 6950. The rest of your system checks ouut fine. To run something like a 6950 or 560, you will need a GOOD NON-GENERIC 500-600w PSU. Corsair and Thermaltake are examples. Generally the good ones are going to sell more, so when looking, you can sort by that.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.... I looked at all of your recommendations and they seem great but I have one concern. Will they fit on my pc? I mean are the psu all the same sizes? Do they come with kits to make installation compatible? I have the same concern for the gpu as well.... Sorry for the questions but I just want to know before I commit and make the purchase....
