I need a nvidia card which is a slight upgrade or replacement for an AMD r9 380(4gb) I currently have. What would you recommend. I want to use redshift renderer and octane but they dont support amd cards. BTW I have 600w psu

Thanks

Solution
My budget will allow for a gtx 1060 is this an upgrase from a r9 380 (doesnt have to be huge difference)
GTX 1060 is quite old and thus it's price varies a lot. Could you be more specific?
And yes, 1060 6gb is an upgrade and is quite close to gtx1650 super (performance difference is about 10-15% at most probably)

Hi @Nigel94

A 1660 would be a nice upgrade as would a 2060. There are similar GPU's close in price, such as the 1060 which is a great GPU but for a few $$ more you can get a 1660 which is a newer & overall faster card. If you have even a few $$ more, then a 2060 would be a very nice upgrade.

Whats your budget and exact make & model of PSU?

Thx guys will check these out. I was thinking of 4gb gtx 1060(single fan). Will that be an upgrade from a r9 380
I would rather go for the 2060 or 1660. The 1060 wouldnt be that much of an upgrade unless you can find it for a super cheap price. The single fan design isnt good as well as thermal would be bad. Also, are you sure you're not getting scammed? I have never heard of a 4gb 1060 before, only 3gb and 6gb

While true, a 1660 or 2060 is a better option vs a 1060, (unless a killer deal is to be had) but I feel I must give the 1060 a little love as the 3gb was a very capable GPU and is faster overall vs the 380. As for temps, I had an EVGA 1060 6GB SC from almost the day it was released back in 2016 up until this past Christmas when I got my 5700 XT and it was the little GPU that could and idled around 23-26c which is hardly hot and would on occasion hit 45-50 under gaming load. This was on EVGA's stock single fan. Of course I made sure it was always clean and so excess heat could never build up.

You are also quite right that there was only a 3GB & 6GB version of the card, though I did read an article a couple years back that there were plans of giving the 1060 11GB like the 1080 though I never was able to find any proof of its existence later.

Just a friendly disagreeance. :)

But considering that GTX1650 Super is "Super" affordable, i think the 1060 is not an option. GTX 1650 Super easily blows 1060 (and other competitors) out of the water

Oh I fully agree. :)

Just saying :)

@Nigel94 never gave us a budget. These theory builds of which GPU to get are moot if his budget is less than what a "super" 1650S goes for. :)

Then just choose either the GTX 1650 Super or GTX 1060.
BUT NOTE: In my country, the GTX 1650 super is cheaper than 1060 6gb. And as 1650 Super offers better performance than 1060, I see no reason to get a 1060.
The rest is up to you. If you have made your decision, marked this thread as solved amd choose the best answer.
Good luck:)
