GPU usage 99% 70C to 100C crash

I have a Asus HD7770-DCT-1GD5.
The issue is, When I try and play any game, like BF4 or Grid2. Just sitting in the menus, the cards GPU will Max at 99%. causing the temperatures to sky rocket from 32c to 70c+ in less then a few seconds. causing my computer to freeze. I've tried reinstalling drivers and check for bottlenecking. And it doesn't seem to be either causing the issue. It started this one day out of the blue. I've also swapped cards. and the other one I installed ran fine when gaming. Could someone shed some light as to what might be wrong?

The fan works fine.

Well if you are hitting 100C on a stock video card then either you have very bad air flow in the case or something else is wrong.

The flow setup is very good, the side of the case is open with a fan pointing right at the card. Like I said, the card was fine one day. Then the next day, I started up BF4, enter the menu and the GPU usage shoots up to 99% then the temperature climbs up to 100c then my computer crashes.

I would check and make sure the heatsink didn't slip off the GPU.

Thanks, I'll try and put new thermal compound and reset the heat sink
