I'm running a rig with an RTX 2080 and a Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB of ram dual channel (2x8) , ram frequency is 2666MHZ, my GPU utilization is not 100%, in-fact in most games it is half of that, am I bottle necked by the CPU? I used one of those bottleneck sites and it says I'm 8.8% bottlenecked in GPU intensive tasks (Games)

My GPU utilization in these games is as follows (All games are on low settings):

1- Apex Legends (Hovers from 40-70%), FPS is around 130 - 180 (Again, low settings).

2- Call of Duty warzone: (Hovers from 40-50%) FPS is 70 - 100.

3- Overwatch (Hovers from 20-50%), Fps is 110 - 260

Seems to me I'm having a pretty big bottle neck, I got this rig about 2 years ago, thinking of upgrading to a newer CPU, Any ideas if this is actually a bottle neck? or just malpractice, thank you anyways.

Hey there,

What resolution do you play at? Your CPU is holing the GPU back a little. But not by much. Try DLDSR, and set the res (even if it's only a 1080p panel) to 2560 x 1440p. Then run a game. You should immediately get 98-100% GPU usage (which is what you want). The load will switch more to the GPU so the CPU doesn't bottleneck as much (i hate the term bottleneck as it's misleading).

Are you using PBO to boost your CPU speed? What clocks does the CPU hit. Run Cinebench R23, and open up HWInfo alongside it. Then you can watch your CPU clocks on the fly whilst the benchmark runs. All core boost for your CPU, IIRC, is 3.9ghz, so you should be close to that under full load.

Also, your ram is not helping. Although 2666mhz seems it should be fast enough, Ryzen CPU's love faster ram. Going from 2666mhz to 3200 or 3600 will yield a performance bump in nearly every task. Specially gaming. The difference could be as much as 10-20% game dependent.

What power-plan are you running. Try switch between them. IIRC I think your CPU can use the Ryzen balanced power plan. So you can download that with a quick google.

If you want more fps on low settings then perhaps a beefier CPU is the way to go.
