GPU Usage Spike

Hi I have a Sapphire R7 260x and I have not overclocked it. When I play games such as CS:GO i get constant GPU usage spikes ranging from 90 down to 30. I would say it stays mostly around 70 but its not even at a consistent 70 it drops quite often to 30-50 usage... It is always zig zagging on the chart according to MSI Afterburner.

I have all settings maxed out at highest resolution and my CPU usage stays around high 50 to 70s never at 90 or 100... Also GPU temps are constant at 57 so I know its not overheating. When I'm not gaming and just internet browsing usage at basically zero.

My FPS in CS:GO ranges from 60 to 140 or so but average I would say is about 80. I would really like higher consistent FPS as I feel I should be able to with more consistent GPU usage.

The weird thing is I noticed after I die and I'm spectating the GPU usage actually stays at 90-100 most of the time... Please help

Thanks in advance

To be honest, They both have their differences, I will switch to the new 15.30 once I stop seeing users have issues and actually seeing performance decreases. AMD should be taking care of us soon if they have not already. The drivers look good just a few issues. ONce tweaked I would go with the newest version.

Don't download Betas unless you know how to handle it when it fails or something goes wrong. Always have saved backup drivers to your computer on a flash device in the state of an issue occurring that you cant fix, this way you have access to it.

Amd new crimson drivers have lots of problems. Make sure you install new crimson beta drivers 15.11.1 from their website. Then go to CS:Go profile in crimson GUI (right click on desktop wallpapers and it should be first one on top) and disable shadow cache or something similar with Word cache in it. And you should be good. Or install old drivers.

Yes, sounds kind of like throttling, does your CPU in task manager take what looks like steps while in a game? if so its thermal throttling and the CPU downclocks when it thinks its to hot resulting in huge fps spikes like that. The same can be happening with your GPU.

The crimson drivers had issues where they would lock the fans on GPUS causing throttling and GPU overheating.

Im still on catalyst because I heard of issues so I am waiting later to download that. I am using a 1080p monitor

I checked with task manager and CPU usage pretty much matches with AMD Overdive which is showing 50-70% usage for CPU. Thermal margin stays around 50 Celsius and I have Turbo Core Disabled.

I have a A8 6600k stock at 3.9 1.3 volts with cooler master hyper 212 evo. I also have a top mounted power supply in my case if that matters and one 120 case fan in front and one 120 in the back and its on a desk. Also the power supply is a corsair cx430 bronze

I have catalyst right now. Do i have to uninstall Catalyst and also my current GPU driver also? Or only uninstall Catalyst if I want to install the new Crimson Driver???

Is there any benefits to Crimson vs Catalyst besides new features and interface? Would I see smoother gameplay?

I stick with Field Value
