Recently I did a part transfusion and upgrade at the same time, I bought a new case, psu and gpu! (super stoked to finally get my build going) So as i was building it not a care in the world, everything running smoothly, succesfully transfer all old parts from gateway pc and get all the cables from my new PSU installed correctly, boom it boots perrrrrfectly fine! So im getting ready to install my graphic cards driven then disable onboard graphics. before i go through and execute it I looked into me case and saw the dammned USB 3.0 cable was RIGHT next to the PCIe slot... This pissed me off but just to make sure i put my GPU where is should be and sure enough it doesnt fit!

Im just wondering if that USB 3.0 is necessary, and if not can I just unplug the cord, creating clearance room for the GPU. The only reason I am asking is because my dad said when I disable onboard graphics without the 3.0 plugged in I will lose function of my back normal usb slots(makes no sense to me but wut do i know?) so now im scarred to unplug it and finish installing the GPU.

Can I unplug the USB 3.0 cable and not risk losing the back USB port? Is this safe? Will I risk locking my computer up by having no USB ports?

If all else fails I have a USB 3.0 low profile cable on its way which should give me the clearance, but it has 5 day shipping and I cant WAIT to get this GPU in!!
Pleasssse help!

What motherboard is it? If it has a 3.0 header on the board, it should be high enough quality to not have those kinds of oversights.

That being said, you can remove the cable no problem. It simply drives the front panel 3.0 connectors, unplug the connector, and you still have full function of everything else, except the cable you removed.

Its a old motherboard with a built in AMD processor, so in no way shape or from is a good motherboard, just to get it straight this cord ( http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRtZHzO4rfdhhI5IB6P7-boMkuJtRpQWHBx-7BIeU69cbB0IDAg1w:www.techpowerup.com/img/10-07-15/63b.jpg ) wont affect the back USB ports, only the front ones on the case?
