GPU won't it into PCIE1 slot but fits into PCIE2?

GPU will not fit into the top PCIE1 slot of my H97M Pro 4 I'm using the gigabyte 380x.

PCIE1 is very loose and does not click, PCIE2 fits perfectly but the cards ports are blocked by my case (Air 240)

What gives? This is the second board I've ordered and it still has the same issue, no amount of force can get it to actually lock in.

Its all down to how well a motherboard from a manufacturer is laid out Jon.

You say the card does not slot into the first Pci-e slot on your motherboard.
But what end of the card has the problem, I presume it is not sitting flush and level in the card slot when you try to place it in.

If it is the front end of the card, then it will be down to the small gap between the inner edge of the motherboard and the system case where the slots are removed or punched out on the system case to allow the video display ports to be accessed externally.

The cause can be because when you fitted the board, there is no gap between the edge of the board and the system case to allow the very bottom edge tongues of the bracket of the card to slot down...

Hey, sorry about the downvote, I was on mobile and didn't mean to do it.

I just wanted to confirm it's not anything on my end, this isn't my first build and my old motherboard works as it should with both PCIE slots. I've already returned one, and this is my second one I'll have to return to an Amazon seller so I guess I just feel really bad about it.

The cause can be because when you fitted the board, there is no gap between the edge of the board and the system case to allow the very bottom edge tongues of the bracket of the card to slot down properly.

So check that gap if it`s the problem.
Sometimes you have to bend the bottom tongues slightly so they can fit between the edge of the board and the back of the system case so it fits and slots in flush to the Pci-e card slot.
Or you have to undo the screws of the motherboard that allow it to be secured to the motherboard mounting plate and push the board back over so the gap between the edge of the motherboard and case is larger in mm.

If it is the back edge of the card closest to where it sits to the memory slots on the motherboard make sure the memory slot white latches are firmly locked.

And last of all it can be because the card is sat on a peripheral cable or connection that is higher than the height of the Pci-e card slot, such example would be a Sata port on the board that is close to the first Pci-e card slot.
And where you may have to use a forty five degree angle connector on the Sata cable to allow the card to sit flush and level in the first Pci- card slot Jon.

But I`m suspecting it could be the cooling heat sink on the motherboard it`s self the square blue Asrock one that the card is sitting on when you attempt to slot it into the first Pci-e slot of the board, due to how long the 380X card is in length.

If you notice the second Pci-e card slot clears that blue heat sink on the motherboard used for the motherboards controller chip set.

So take a good look to see if the card is not resting on the blue Asrock heat sink.
