Gpu won't work

I have just bought a new asus radeon rx 580 8gb and it won't work. My mobo is a maximus 6 hero and I have a g7 extreme 780w power supply with a 6 to 8 pin adapter does anyone know why it's not working please .

If you have to use an adapter to use a GPU then your PSU is probably not actually up to snuff.

I would suggest buying a PSU from a well-known manufacturer, like Seasonic.
