Getting ready to refund this Gigabyte Gaming GeForce RTX 5090 GPU as I cannot get it to boot with my i7 920/EVGA X58 SLI LE LGA 1366 motherboard with an EVGA 1300W G3 Gold PSU. My othe GPUs such as the XFX RX 7900XT MERC310, PNY RTX 4080 Super, EVGA RTX 3080Ti FTW3, Asus RTX 3080 TUFF, RTX 2080Ti XC, RTX 2080 Amp, Titan Xp, GTX 1080Ti STRIX, Titan X Pascal, Vega 64 Red Devil, GTX 980Ti MATRIX, etc, etc. all boot fine with this system.

This RTX 5090 works fine with my i9 10920X . On the i7 920 motherboard no bios ever apperars; just two numbers in the bios keep flipping back and forth on the digital dispaly.

Anyone have any ideas?

I also have X58 system with Rampage III Formula mobo and Xeon X5675 CPU.
I was planning to buy RTX 5090 and just do the bench on the old X58 system until I saw your post.
I am also curious why it can't boot up. Is it because of the GDDR7 memory module? I can't seems to find any further info on the internet besides your post.

RTX 4090 seems to be working flawlessly with x58 system. There are youtube video and 3dmark benchmark showing test and result pairing x58 with rtx 4090 ( Rank no. 1 in 3dmark spy with cpu xeon W3690).

Can someone explain what change in rtx 5090?

X58 does not support UEFI, which most new GPUs now use a UEFI bios. The 4090 supports both UEFI and VGA bios, which is why it will work on the older x58 boards.

On side note......"AMD has announced that its upcoming RX 9070 series (RDNA 4) GPUs will require a UEFI system for optimal compatibility. Put simply, it has dropped support for the older BIOS and CSM standards, requiring users to make the necessary shift to UEFI. While this doesn't mean RDNA 4 GPUs will cease to function with legacy firmware, AMD offers no assurance." Source

Thanks for the answer. So you need to have custom VGA bios (if it even exist) on these new cards to make it work with old system like x58. Such a hassle. Another downside with the new cards beside the ridiculous pricing lol.

I felt the same way about cars when they came out … not only expensive but I couldn’t just feed it some hay and go. Ridiculous they never made the car compatible with hay … but what can you do?
