Gpu-z and afterburner causing fps drops

So, today I decided to download msi afterburner to try and overclock my windforce 960 which I've been putting off for a while and I noticed some strange things while trying to run benchmarks. If I have any gpu monitoring software open like afterburner of gpu-z I get terrible FPS drops for some reason. I have only experienced this in dirt rally so far since it's the only game I own currently that has a built-in benchmark. If I run a stress test utility with afterburner open everything runs fine with no problem, 100% gpu usage and expectable frame rates. If I run dirt rally however, I get crazy gpu usage spikes and 10 - 15 fps until my gpu usage goes back up which is never for longer than i'd say 3 seconds. I've scoured this site and many other forums and have seen people talk about the gpu spiking on 900 series cards but no mention of it happening exclusively while monitoring gpu usage. I'd love to know if anyone else has had a similar problem or has any advice/solutions I can test out, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try "AIDA64" Extreme or other editions........ you should try Cinebench test...... and do the stress test first.... then u should test about clock speed and FPS..... not depends to msi shipped OC software only........

Actually, after messing around with trying to benchmark Dirty rally more I discovered it has to just be a problem with that game because ANY window I bring up (browser, task manager, etc.) in front of the dirt rally window will cause my fps to drop massively for some reason, I have no idea why but it just has to be something about the game and not any of the other programs. I've ran multiple different stress test utilities for both my cpu (Fx-6300 currently stable at 4.3 ghz) and my gpu which I have overclocked to around 1350/1400 mhz. I'm probably just going to use other game benchmarks like the built in on in metro last light or something like that, thanks for the input though.

Before anything u do........ Just remember Your have to confirm your OC system is fully stable (doesn't conflict about voltage or similar) ...... If you passed from multi stress test from AIDA or Cinebench....... then u should doubt other problem..... I don't think so you CPU is stable by your current voltage...... something is wrong.... try to 1.3 @ 4.0 GHz first..... then up/down step by step if you want ........ by perfect voltage u can run your cpu 4.5/6 GHz cmoothly under 80 Temp. and just keep an eye to a good cooling system

I couldn't get my CPU up to 4.5 sadly, and I pushed the voltage REALLY high to see if I could get it stable (I think 1.48 was were I got to, load temps at 80c) and I still had cores failing in my prime95 tests which never made it past an hour. As it is I had to push my voltage to 1.42 to get what i'm hoping is "stable" at 4.3 since it passed an 8 hour prime95 test. I also never got any crashes during any of my benchmarking or gaming since my overclock, but this is only my second attempt at OCing this cpu so im still kinda new to this stuff.

Immediately reset the all OC software which you r using.....
go to bios and set default the CPU and GPU voltage as previews state
Restart the PC> now run the stress test just one time make sure you have no other problem........... I hope u will pass

Now, Go to Bios and set the CPU Voltage 1.2-1.3 and Sync all CPU core> Set CPU Core ratio at 4.0 GHz
Restart the PC....... run Stress Test for CPU only ............. if pass then go to bios again and set the the CPU ratio 4.2 (keep select the all core sync) ...... back to windows run stress test again ............ if you pass ............do the same process to slightly increase CPU Ratio 4.4 ........ (u should don cross the limit to cpu voltage 1.34) ............... do the same process

Just keep an eye at any condition.......... you have keep your cpu under 60c to maximum 80c
if u success at your CPU 4.5 (at your current cooling system u should not cross above 4.5..........)
if u want more
change to higher cooling system........... u can reach 4.8 easyly
