Hey everyone, My grandma has an Hp pavillion slimline with 4gb of ram, A pentium ( I have no Idea what the model is.) At 3.0 ghz. It's overly slow. I've tried a fresh install and even new hard drive and everything in between, But it's just the hardware I suppose. I have gone out and picked up a Dell optiplex gx260. I've got a nice networking card for it, But I need suggestions for other parts. Obviously the cpu. I have a nice motherboard too. I plan to use either my old gtx 650, or a geforce 210. She only needs to run 1080p videos at 60 fps, and some multitasking. Not any heavy gaming, Unless you count Words With Friends. Thanks for the help!

I'd go with a cheap AMD build, you could use the case from that gx260 and throw in a new motherboard with an Athlon or a Phenom along with your GTX 650. That'll last a long time. I think those Pentium 4s and Celerons that computer supports are old and slow for today, you might end up having to get another computer for her again soon. :)

I'm somewhat confused. Grandma has an HP with a 3Ghz Pentium but you bought a Dell Optiplex gx260 which has a 2Ghz Pentium? That's not an upgrade. Neither system will really have any reusable parts.

I had bought the older one, Not as an upgrade, but for the psu and the case.

I'm on a 200$ budget.
I'd reuse some parts from her current hp. Such as the motherboard, Which is perfectly usable.

Thing is, I HATE Prebuilt systems. No idea why.

The motherboard only supports pretty old CPUs, I don't think it'll cut it. If you want something that faster then I'd suggest getting another motherboard and CPU (newer of course). Maybe a used Core 2 and a used motherboard?

I hadn't meant the gx260 mobo. If you were thinking that...

As I stated in my first post we can't help you without knowing exactly what you have and want to reuse.
