Quandary 1: I just bought 3 for parts only MSI RX480 8gb of which 2 worked perfectly after a cleaning and a bios change the other smelled like burning and looked like smoke. I got them for my current system; i5-4670k OC to 4.2 mhz, 4x4gb ddr3 powered by 550w gold rated seasonic. Is it worth running them in crossfire or should I resell 1 to recoup some of my initial cost?

Quandary 2: I've been building a second system for my nephew for christmas. i7-3770, 4+8gb ddr3, with an RX570 4gb. Another option would be to sell the 570 in favor of the 480.

Solution
Crossfire and SLI are not worth it these days. Besides you would have to upgrade your PSU as recommended is a 650W PSU for two RX 480s.

I would say sell it. The RX 570 and RX 480 perform very close with the 480 being slightly ahead but the 570 is newer meaning longer driver support, not by much. I guess I would see what the resale value for both are and sell the one that gets the most money.
