Hi all
I’m looking to purchase a 8 gb graphics card to upgrade my integrated graphics.I currently have a 500w power supply in my pc.What cards should I be looking at buying before I need to upgrade the psu,Is a 500w psu enough to run a 8gb graphics card even? I’m running a decent AMD chip and 16 gig of ram btw. Thanks for your time people any advice would be great.Cheers

Solution
Vram should not be used as a selection criteria for a graphics card.
Vram is used differently in amd or nvidia drivers.
The vram on a card will be appropriate to the card.

In general, the amd cards will use 75w more power than comparable performing nvidia cards.
Here is a handy chart as to what wattage you might need:

You can evaluate the capabilities of cards using tom's gpu hierarchy chart.

some 4gb graphic cards are more powerful than 8gb graphic cards.
some 450w powersupplies are better than 600w powersupplies.

its not this number game in pc world.

try to give the brand and model of your components
