Graphic card price solution

Hey everyone
So I am in a sticky situation right now. I was building up my new gaming PC but to make a long story short got scrwd over twice by my online vendor of choice and now face horrendous prices on the gtx market...
I hoped that nvidia would announce the new generation on the gtc but that probably won't happen so the release will most likely be towards the end of the year.
Because the next gen (gtx11 or 20) is more or less at the doorstep I kinda do not want to spend 800 USD to get a graphics card when I might could by a MUCH better one for the same price within this year.
However I do not have a graphics card I could use for that time and this is where it gets tricky. I came up with multiple options:
1: I just eat it and pay 800 USD for a card recommended to be around 550 according to the Internet and may ending up being very pissed by the end of the year.
2: I buy a used one, potentially from a miner which hopefully makes it long enough for the next gen but will still be kinda expensive.
3: I get an gtx1050 or 1050ti, try to overclock it and use it till something happens on the market
4: wait for a miracle. Which I really hate doing, especially when there's a complete PC except the graphic card.

I read that there will probably ethernium specific cards coming out this year and when the next gen cards coming out I would expect the price to drop quite a lot within this year.

What do you guys think? Is it realistic to buy a used card? Does it make more sense to get a 1050? Anyone working for nvidia who can tell me how long I have to wait? :D

My goal is to have a working PC ASAP but without wasting too much money... I know that's quite difficult to achieve currently...

So I checked for the 970 and it's pretty much the same price as the 1060!
The 1060 is decent but I want to be prepared for the future games. It's my first PC for 9 years I want to "crank up" without compromises. I was initially aiming for the 1070ti and 1080

So you've got a choice, buy what is reasonable now to get you running, and then leap on better when it turns up, or pay over the odds now.

It sounds as though you want to buy a card that can handle future high-end games. If buying a card with an inflated price-tag is out of the question, then your only option is to buy one from a miner. I saw 3 x 1070 ti's being sold second-hand for $550 on hard forum. I don't think I'm allowed to link though.

Realistically, its your best bet aside from waiting to see if the crypto-inflation continues to subside. There seems to be a general consensus among PC gamers that prices will eventually return to MSRP within a year.

It depends on how long it was used for mining. if the card was run for a year 24/7 mining then it won't be in good shape at all. but if it was used for 1-3 months, that's not so bad.

A 1030 is NOT better than a 970. Not even close.

So I should try to get my hands rather in a 970 than a 1030 even with 6gb?
How about a 980 or ti respectively. Just give me some good options so I can see where I can get my hands on

1060 or better, or 970 or better. But the idea behind second hand is that its cheap enough that you won't lose when you sell it on to buy a next gen card given that they are just over the horizon.

I don’t think I would wait - you have all of the pieces and you don’t want to accidentally wait yourself into obsoleting your current build. I think, if you can do it, get one used if possible. There are a lot of sellers out there nowadays and you may be able to find something that is going to last you for awhile even if it had been used by a miner.

I think that list is fron worst to best, right? :D
I just read an article stating that the new cards will come in autumn, latest early next year. So I'll try to find a 970 for the moment or some used 1060
Thanks for the help everyone.

I ranked the GPUs based on price to performance ratio. Right now, the 970 is the best while the Vega 64 is the worst because it costs WAY too much for the performance tier its in. The price is coming down though..
