Hi, I'm currently choosing the parts for the pc that I will be building, but just recently I find out that the Sapphire HD 7950 that I was looking is out of stock and will not be restocked.

So now I'm trying to decide whether I should get 2 cards(most likely 7770 1gb) and cross fire them or I should get the 7870 2gb.

I'm not really considering the 7950 from other company because they are more expensive and I've already went pass the budget a little buy choosing the Sapphire 7950. However I will be able to afford it if I give up on the sound card.

So what do you guys think?

It depends on what your striving for. I wouldn't put 80% of my budget into my graphics card of my total PC, but I would invest 50-60%.

The most important thing is what the bottleneck for what you are doing. Assuming it is gaming, can a SSD offer more benefits than a graphics card? Are you gaming at 2560x1440? or 1920x1080? Are you trying to do a single screen or 3-screen Eye-finity. All of these will affect the decision.

Without knowing the details, I would say get the 7870 2GB as you can always pick up a second of those to crossfire at a future date for a really solid build without breaking the bank. It will do great 1920x1080 gaming on a single screen and still hold up well in a dual/tri-screen setup.

If you already have a SSD, good power supply, mobo and CPU, then go for the 7950, otherwise the price jump vs the fps improvement is not linear once you get past the 77xx series GPUs.

I can't speak for everyone her but generally I would only recommend 1 GPU as I have only found that 2 complicates things and is much harder to upgrade later since you have more invested up front.

Thanks for the reply, helped me a lot.
My current spec are
CPU: FX 6200

Mobo: Not yet decided as the one I wanted went out of stock

Ram: Patriot 8gb

PSU: Antec 550watts

HDD: Seagate 2TB

I will only be gaming at 1920 x 1080 on a single screen and I'm not planning to upgrade in the future as I do not have the money to do that.
So what's your opinion?
