gtx 970 msi (good temps)

so today I started playing shadow of mordor, and noticed weird stuttering, thought that maybe it was the new patch, so I played some more after restarting the game and turning down some gfx settings, was playing at a good 80fps and everything was going how it should until the monitor just went black, now you would probably think it overheated but the thing is everything was still running in the pc, and I even heard some ingame sound. The only option was to do a hard shutdown so after turning it on again i tried other games and as soon as I got to the main menu the gfx turned off, so I wanted to be sure it was the gfx card by stress testing it with msi Kombustor and as soon as I click start test ive I see the visuals on screen with a good fps for 2 secs until the gfx card turns itself off, if the gfx was burnt or whatever it wouldnt of played those 2 secs at
good fps,and cant be overheating since theres not enough time, plus when monitoring it wouldnt surpass 40 degrees, I looked online and the only thing I can find that could be probable is conflicting programs but not sure, any thoughts?
