Graphic card stuck in PCI E slot...

Long story short :

When I had to RMA my GTX 970, I had to pull it out of my previous motherboard (MSI Z97 G55 SLI : https://asset.msi.com/resize/image/global/product/five_pictures3_3157_20140415174654.png62405b38c58fe0f07fcef2367d8a9ba1/600.png) but it was completely and firmy locked by the lock on the side. I pushed on the graphic card while pushing the clamp, pulled the card while pushing the lock, or tried just pushing on the lock. No matter how gently, or hard I pushed (until my thumb litterally hurt), the lock could not be pushed at all !

I ended up pulling the side with the screw until half of the card was out of the PCI E slot (probably not designed to be pulled like that right ? Sigh...), until I could finally push the lock down and release the damn card.

This little struggle made me rethink my choice for an MSI mother board. So I sold it and bought an ASUS motherboard instead to replace it. While the lock mechanism looks the same, I NEVER had to push hard on it to release my card, it just works like it should.

Problem is : the ASUS card had pop sounds whenever a sound would play on windows and it got me very irritated. So I sent it back to the shop, and bought a new MSI Z97S Krait edition SLI ( https://asset.msi.com/resize/image/global/product/five_pictures3_3266_20140829112347.png62405b38c58fe0f07fcef2367d8a9ba1/600.png ), thinking my previous card's locking mechanism might have been faulty.

Guess what, as soon as my card was locked in the PCI E slot of my new MSI MB, I could not get it out AGAIN. So now, I'm stuck the same problem, can't push the lock down on my new MSI motherboard. Pushing on the card, wiggling it, or whatever doesn't do the trick...

Have you ever faced a stuck graphic card ? What did you try to release it ?

Should I pull the graphic card on the opposite side (like I did previously) and damage the PCI E slot ? (this is what happened with my Z97 G55)(but believe me, I spent 1 HOUR trying everything possible, even removing the CPU heatsink to have more room, nothing worked)

Help !

Solution
Try pushing the GPU towards the PCI slot to relieve some stress on the locking mechanism with the fish tail end. The issue you've explained takes some patience and wiggling to get the card out of the slot. It also seems like the board may not be seated properly due tot eh fact that some undue stress from the chassis's PCI expansion slots are being transferred through tot eh GPU to the slot.

Might I ask what your full system's specs are inclusive of your OS? Intel motherboard's had the same issue with the locking mechanism being too hard and required that some GPU's be pulled out as you'e described to have done.
