Graphic card

Ordinary system RAM is often used by graphics chipsets that are integrated on the motherboard. It is only used when you have an integrated chipset that is running. You cannot augment a dedicated video card's RAM with main system memory.
 
A dedicated video card's ram can be augmented with shared memory. Most reasons that dedicated video card's dont require shared ram is because they usually have enough ram themselves (dedicated RAM). On lower end GPU's shared ram is sometimes taken from the system to be used as shared memory for the GPU.
