Hey guys

So I took my dad's laptop to print a document/ It was on his desk in his room and I moved it to my study. While I was there the display went all fuzzy and hazy and blurry/ it was the fist time something like this happened. I have my suspicions that it might be a defective fan or poor cooling paste that was applied at manufacturing. The laptop is about 4+ years old and has a good history. No hardware or software problems until now.

What are your opinions and solutions to this? I could try to replace the TIM myself if I can get the gpu off which is unlikely, I could check for clogged fans and I could probably bake the mobo in the oven at 40*C for 20min which would melt the solder back into place.

Thanks
PhatLloyd

This is exactly describing what happened with an old PC I had. In the end the GPU failed on mine due to permanent damage caused by overheating. The worst part was that I regularly cleaned and maintained that PC. Your best course of action would probably be to check the fans and thermal paste and maybe replace them depending on their condition.
