Graphical Memory running low

Not sure whether this is the appropriate section, but I'll put it up anyway. I just got Rome 2 a few weeks back, and I noticed that in the loading screen it says "Warning: Graphical Memory running low".
I can let the game use the system memory, but I would like to know whether this has something to do with my GPU. I use a GTX 550 Ti 1 GB GDDR5 and I want to know whether my GPU is not able to handle the game. Also I don't know whether its the GPU or the memory of the GPU that's causing this.
So, if I'm going to have to upgrade, should I just get a better GPU of the same memory (1GB) or pick up something that is bigger than it currently is(2GB).
If I have to upgrade, what would be a good choice in $160~$180.

Thank you.

P.S: Here's my specs
Intel DZ68ZV Motherboard
Intel i5 2500k @ 3.3 GHz
4GB RAM
ASUS GTX 550Ti 1GB GDDR5 GPU

Can't help you out in why you are getting that message as I do not own the game, however if you do end up upgrading you can pick up a 7950 for close to $200 or a 7870 for around $170 if you play your cards right.

But I need to know whether I actually need this upgrade. Is the GPU really at fault? Also the cards you mentioned use PCIe 3.0? My motherboard does not have 3.0 slots. Is the 3.0 backwards compatible with 2.0? Even if it is, will it not bottleneck it?
