Hi Guys, so I'm looking to get into PC Gaming and I want a graphics card to put into my setup. My budget is up to £150 max and I'll be looking to play in 1920*1080 resolution. I've been told that my best bet would be to go for a HD 7870 or a GTX 660, but I'm not sure which one to go for, here's my current setup:

AMD A6-3670k @3.1GHz
Gigabyte GA-A75M-UD2H
2*4GB Crucial Ballistix @ 1333MHz
Antec Neo Eco 620W PSU

Thanks

You can't go wrong with either.

Both are neck to neck in games.

The one feature which might tilt you towards Nvidia is the PhysX if you are interested in that.

But if you are interested in 7870 then you should go for instead for Sapphire r9 270x available at 150 pounds.

Performs higher than both and a high-end card for full HD gaming.

Many thanks for the reply. I did have a look at the 270x but I'm inclined towards the GTX 660 for the free copy of Assassin's Creed IV and Splinter Cell that comes with it, I'm just aware that the 7870 is a little cheaper than the 270x for similar performance, but perhaps I should just go for the newer one.

EDIT: ignore the edit, didn't read things properly!

Exactly, free games are always a bonus 😛

Well to be honest, r9 270x is better than Gtx 660 purely in terms of performance. The only aspect as I said might tilt you towards Nvidia is the PhysX factor.

Plus you're getting the free games too now.

If it weren't for the games, I'd say go for the r9 270x. you won't regret it. But with games in mind, it's upto you.

Yeah, I guess so, there's another problem though, my PSU didn't come with Modular cables, and the 270x needs 2 x 6-pin connectors, which would mean buying cables for £17 extra, that brings the total closer to £170. Whereas both the 660 and 7870 just need 1 x 6-pin which I already have. Such dilemmas!

There is a definite performance increase for r9 270x over the 660 and the 7870 and it's the obvious choice if cost isn't the factor.

But if you are choosing between the 7870 and 660, which have almost the same performance in games, I'd pick the one you get more games with.

Plus you can try the PhysX feature in Batman 😛 It's pretty cool just for the heck of it, if u get the 660.

Thanks again for the help. I think I'm going to save up for a R9 270x and the cables, no point skimping for such a high-performance part. One thing though, do you think I should get the 4GB 270x (about £15 more) or should I go for the 2GB one?
